After months of trainings, finally rehearsing at the actual venue!!

Arrived at F1 pit, surrounded by floats and other contingents for CHINGAY.
It's gonna be a big event, gathering numerous of people.
Not long after settling down, it's time for dinner! (someone has been waiting for that!)

After a filling dinner, Elyn suggested that we should play some games to kill time!
So, let's start the ball rolling with king kong kiang kong~~~(a game that we learned from Weiqi in Taiwan!)

Of course there will be people to punish forfeiters!
(erm, actually we didn't want to appoint any, but this two people were so automatic, that they declare themselves as the punish-er! actually just to hide from playing the game but still wanna join in the fun)

The night was awesome!! GREAT ppl, GREAT atmosphere, GREAT show!!! Not mentioning the after party!

One of our supporters, Ee Chin even walk away with the BEST DRESS AWARD!!!

Really wanna thank all our supporters for coming down!! You all were REALLY great audiences!!!! and also much thanks to WATSinside for inviting us to perform!!

Tribute - Halogen Foundation Singapore Fund Raising Dinner

Are u missing SIM DreamWerkz performance in full strength?

Here's an update for U!!

SIM DreamWerkz's alumni, Shawn has recently invited us to perform for his company, Halogen Foundation, fund raising dinner.

P.S. we were the one and only performance item for that event!! and guess who's our audiences? CEOs of MNC and a VIP! Deputy Prime Minister, Teo Chee Hean. (We even got a chance to snap a photo with HIM!!!)

For this gala dinner, we put up a total of 5 songs, namely Please do not swagger jack me(choreographed by Xue Hui), Born this way(choreographed by Xue Hui), Mercy(choreographed by ShiQi), Girls on the dance floor(choreographed by Windy) and Go ape(choreographed by Jayden, Leycia and Seraph)

It was such a GREAT night! We were so much liked by the attendees as well as the host company! Compliments were overwhelming!!

Other than putting up a GREAT performance, we were hosted to a GREAT dinner too!! Yum Yum!! Thinking of that is mouth watering!!!

Lastly, a BIG BIG BIG thank you to Halogen Foundation for giving us this GREAT opportunity to perform!!

Circle Line Discovery

Hey ppl!!!! How have u been???

SIM DreamWerkz has been busy with performances and competitions lately!!

Earlier this month, some of our dancers were invited to perform for the opening of CIRCLE LINE!!!
Woohoo~~

2nd October 2011, SIM DreamWerkz set off to Telok Blangah station. As it was the grand opening, the station was filled with anticipated audiences. P.S. an estimation from LTA, there were in total of 148,000 attendees at the 12 stations!!

Performing twice, our dance started off with Oh Go (choreographed by Qi Yong), Girls on the dance floor, then an instrumental piece (both choreographed by Windy)

This was a good experience for DreamWerkz as... who really get to perform in a MRT station??!!

BUT! We got to!!!

Thanks for all those that came for the audition! You guys were so happening!!

After six months, the long waited DreamWerks Advance team audition is FINALLY here and OVER!!!

Look at the number of ppl that came!! Our future DWZ advance team-to-be are hidden inside!!!
These ppl have showed us wat they are capable of! Esp when requested for other genres!! We saw talents from House, popping and even... breaking!!!

This was a fruitful audition and those that received the msg... CONGRATULATIONS!! You are now part of this DWZ FAMILY!!

CONGRATULATION for those that make it for the audition!!!!

JUNIOR TEAM CYCLE

Date: Every Wednesday (commence on 21st September 2011)
Time: 8:15pm-9:30pm
Fees: $90/3months (excluding $10 registration fee for first timers)
Venue: Ulu Pandan Dance Studio

Everyone has to fulfill AT LEAST 75% (9 out of 12). Failure to do so, your place for the next Junior Team Cycle will be FORFEITED. In other words, if your attendance falls below 75%, to enter the next Junior Team cycle, you will have to undergo the audition AGAIN!!!!

In this class, Allegra will focus more on choreography. There will be a showcase at the 12th lesson of each cycle. EVERYONE HAS TO BE PRESNET AT THE LAST LESSON FOR THE SHOWCASE!! Unless you have a valid reason (case by case basis) and inform before the 10th lesson, your place for the next Junior Team cycle will be FORFEITED!

Please come 15 to 20 mins before 8:15pm for registration and payment (FULL AMOUNT) on that day.

Hey Chingay peeps!!

The audition for Chingay will be this thursday. Details are as follows.

Date: 8th September 2011, Thursday
Venue: 5.09C AND 5.09D (SIM HQ)
Time: 7pm

Don't worry!! You do not have to prepare anything. You will be taught a simple choreography (probably a few eights) and our instructor, Allegra will assess you through that.

NOTE: Pls be there at least 20 mins earlier for registration. And also be in your full dance wear (i.e. COVERED shoes and comfortable outfit for stretching) NO SHORTS AND SLIPPERS ARE ALLOWED. IF YOU ARE WEARING SHORTS, IT MUST BE AT LEAST KNEE LENGTH.

Thank you for signing up for Chingay 2012, we will be setting up booths to collect the $20 refundable deposit. Details are as follows

Venue: New Annex building, level 1 (it will be somewhere outside souperlicious!!)

Time: 11am - 4pm

*apart from collecting the $20 refundable deposit, we will also be collecting the indemnity forms and your t-shirt sizes...

P.S. If you are interested in joining and have yet to sign up, this is your LAST LAST CHANCE!!!

Those who fail to pay the $20 by 2 september will be taken out from our list (i.e. if you registered but fail to pay, you will not join us for this event!!)

Intro to Hip Hop
Open to hip hop beginners. If you do not have any dance background, this is the right place to start. It will be similar to the current junior class that we are holding. BUT... this time there will be more lessons per cycle. Our instructor will focus mainly on building up foundations and teach one or two choreography.

Time: 7pm-8.15pm
Date: Every Wednesday
Venue: Ulu Pandan dance studio
Fees: $120/12lessons (excluding one time registration fee for first timer)

Junior team
Open to people with basic techniques and dance background. Our instructor will focus more on choreography, that means, you will get to learn more dance and different styles!! This course serves as a platform to help you to get into our performing team too!!

*Note: If we are sourcing for people to join us for ad hoc performance, this is where we hunt them!!!

First experience @ GB Academy Kluang

On 14th August 2011, SIM DreamWerkz was invited to perform at GB Academy Kluang Event. It was the first time that we have ever stepped onto an unfamiliar country. With mixed feelings, 13 of us set off to our destination, Kluang.

On the bus ride, our people were tying hair, munching snacks, putting make up, busy snapping shots and sleeping.

After a long bus journey, we arrived at Kluang. Numerous students were queuing up outside the venue. Eyes were all on us while we walked past them to get into the venue. Wow! The venue was BIG!

Lead to our seats, we were ready for a stage run. As people were flooding in, and due to time constraint, we were not allowed to do a proper one but just a brief mark through. Told to be prepared by 10.20am, we changed into our costumes and await to be up. Filled with anxiety, we standby way before the show started. This was a hard time as waiting keeps us more anxious now.

Finally, we were up next...

"1,2,3... DREAMWERKZ!!" we cheered.

"SIM gives you opportunity to realise your dreams... Lets welcome DREAMWERKZ!"

The audience like our performance!We even have little fans that wanted to took photos with us!

For this show, apart being the first time performing overseas, this was also the first time that we invited two of our junior team members to join us.

Qi Yong and Wilson were the two selected ones to join us in this journey. Together, we trained, we practice and bond together. Although they were not from the performing team, they have put in a lot of effort to show that they are capable of putting up such an impressive show and the performing team has confirmed their efforts.

The show had ended, we had made it!! We had marked a milestone towards our overseas performance. Sim DreamWerkz, this is who we are.

Student Week 2010 @ Grand Hall

This year, student week performances by the arts and cultural clubs were shifted to the grand hall. I have to say(if any of the arts fest organizer reads this), WE STILL PREFER THE ATRIUM!!!!! The hall is good as there's a real stage, but i guess the location kind of reduced the number of audiences. We used to have audiences from 4 directions in the atrium... ahh. okay shall not complain!! Here's some photos for student week! (didn't manage to take more photos as we only had one performance this year)

SIM Incandescence: The Amazing Race (11/10/2010)

Our chingay contingent Incandescence met up for the first time on Saturday, 11^thSeptember in School, where we then proceed for our amazing race game at Marina Bay. This is what the dance captains have to say:

Group 1 – Shiqi

With less than a 30 minutes nap, I made my way to school on a Saturday morning for the Chingay amazing race orientation. Reached school at 8am SHARP!! The earliest I’ve been so far in these two years. Heh! Ran like mad from the Flyer to Suntec back to Esplanade, then to Chinatown, Raffles, etc. My mind went blank at one instant, but my legs just kept running… and running… and running…. the number ‘1’ just kept appearing in my head.

Was rather grateful that most of the people in my team turned up. We ended up being the largest group, having a total12 people including the facilitator Qing Yong from Love Retreats. There are definitely disadvantages for being such a huge group. It was difficult to oversee the welfare of everyone when you have so many people, but it was also because of the size of our group that everyone came together and pushed ourselves to finish the race as a team.

I told my group in the bus to Marina Bay, “Hey! in my group means must get first leh”. They all looked at me and smiled. A bunch of really enthusiastic people!! Had so much fun with them!! Of course, at every station I constantly reminded them how it will be like when they announced the scores at the end of the race and we came in first. WE DID!!!!!! We should always begin with the end in mind, right?? Haha!! Really want to share this verse I came across on the net randomly some time back that inspired me to the soul.

If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don't. If you think you can't win, it is almost certain that you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost. For out in the world we find, success begins with a fellow's will. It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are. You've got to think high to rise. You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.

HMMMM…. shall I remind everyone during the weekly practices in the future how it will be like if we emerged champion for the FIRST Singapore traveling mass dance competition? HAHA!!!

Group 2 – Florence

Personally, I felt that this amazing race helped bond the people together.

Not only do they work together as a team to complete tasks at each station, they are also given the chance to lead and decide who to follow for the next station. From this event, we can identify who the leaders and who are the followers.

This amazing race is a very good way to start off the preparation for the competition and mix the whole contingent around. It definitely marked a good start! I believed everyone enjoyed themselves in this amazing race and am definitely excited to know what we have prepared for them next.

Group 3 – Shawn

A great success in bonding the teams and the dance captains indeed! Although only 6 of the 12 people in my team turned up for the race, it was not handicapped at all. In fact, we managed to win 2^nd place overall!! Having said that, I realized that winning wasn’t really the main thing that day because even when we were running out of time, I can still see my group members talking and getting to know each other while we moved from checkpoint to checkpoint throughout the entire race. That’s why it was a great success!

Group 4 – Linda

The Amazing Race allowed my team and I to bond and get to know each other better. Although we had to endure the hot sun and the endless running and walking to get to respective stations, all of us held on to each other till the very end! I learnt that it is not at all about winning, although it is a bonus, but it is more of encouraging each other during the race and lifting their spirits up. I am very proud of my team and their individual efforts in making the race a fun experience!

Group 5 – Mu En

The amazing race really included much more running than I had in mind, but no matter what, it was still a memorable amazing race experience. Our group definitely got to know each other better and we became more bonded. Being deprived of drinks and running in the hot sun was that something we shared in common, at that point of time. Maybe it's times like this that makes us rely on each other more. Grumbling to each other about how hot the sun was etc became a topic for everyone to talk about at least. For me, i realized the power of google maps and being able to use it to navigate around. In conclusion, we had fun together, running as a team.

Group 6 – Beifang

Waking up early in the morning, reporting to school by 8a.m isn’t really my sort of thing, but weird as it may seem, it was all worth it. It was really nice and especially important, for SIM to hold such bonding sessions through this amazing race, to allow us, the dance captains, to bond with our group members. Tiring as it may seem, I had fun too! Working together, solving clues, cracking our brains, this is definitely a big step in getting us ready for the challenges we are going to face in the coming months.

Group 7 – Steph

I felt that the best part of the amazing race was that we got to work together as a team in a fun and light-hearted manner. Despite working together for the first time under the scorching sun, our team still went on to complete all the checkpoints. Every one supported and looked out for each other during the course of the race. What I like most about our team is that no one gave up and practically gave their 101%. The enthusiasm is contagious and it motivates me to match up or if not, to strive beyond that. YAYYYY!!!

Group 8 – Windy

Not even one day. All it takes is just a few hours of adventure. A few hours to build the bond and the strong foundation. First time seeing them, my thought was like "O my god.. I'm in hell right now.. Look at all those strangers in my group". Exact same reaction I have every time I joined a group. Believe me, I could have stayed silent and simply run the race and we'd eventually reach the finish line. But then it strikes me. I decided to do my absolute BEST to make the day special.... Simply because I realized that this group of people will be the group I'll be working with until the end of the competition day, and THIS GROUP of people will the the group I'll be working with to bring GLORY to my school..

Meeting people you don't know and try to spontaneously build the connection between them and yourself, is such a wonderful experience. We didn't know about each other, really. All we know is we race as a team, or we're gonna crumble. Run side by side to the finish line and DON'T leave anyone behind. That's exactly what I've learnt, and that's exactly how I feel for the mass dance competition itself. It doesn't matter one step too late or too early and you don't quite make it, or one second to slow or too fast and you don't quite catch it, because I know if we work hard together as ONE, we'll get EVERYBODY in sync. On this team we'll fight and dance our way in one song. Together we're strong, divided we crumble.

Group 9 – Ee Chin

I have never participated in any amazing race related events before, so the amazing race was an interesting first time experience for me. I enjoyed the walking and running around despite the hot weather. I was afraid that my group members would find this group an uninteresting and boring one. However, the group members have shown great enthusiasm in this race, jokes and laughter are being shared between the members throughout the whole race. This event had told me that a team’s bond is important to keep the whole team spirit going.

Group 10 – Megan

Almost as soon as the dawn breaks, we were all gathered in school for SIM Incandescence's first gathering! The amazing race started off from the Singapore Flyer and my group, Tango, was already hyped up for the challenges set for us. Even though our group only had 7 participants in total, including me and the facilitator from Love Retreats, we were pretty sure we can aim for one of the first groups to finish the race. Since we have a small group it should be easy to move around quickly, right? I think that I had set too high an expectation for our group

because along the way, everyone was so enthusiastic and optimistic that we kept on thinking we were ahead of most of the other groups. It was only when we were at our last few stations that we realized it would take forever to walk back from Chinatown all the way back to our starting point. It was definitely a little disappointed knowing that we might not be able to make it on time. The facilitator did a good job in keeping the spirit of the group up. Afterall, it was just a game for team bonding. I'm glad that all of us had fun during the race.

Last but not least, let us congratulate the CHAMPION TEAM!!!! (AHERM… Shiqi’s team)

Shiqi: Thank you Iris, Emily, Ashley, Beverly, Gabriela, Ivan, Eddie, Dominic, Jeremy and Tai Wen for being such wonderful team members!!!! Thank you Weiqi for helping me out on Saturday as well!! Really appreciate all the effort you guys put in when I said “RUNNNNN!!!!”. Had a good time with you guys during dinner on Saturday. Looking forward to future rehearsals with you guys, and we shall take another group photo when we receive the $15,000 prize on 12^th February 2011 =P

My deepest appreciation to my 10 dance captains for their hard work as well as the participants for making everything possible.

Last but not least, THANK YOU MS JANICE LOW for all the support you've given us!!!!

Thanks for the prompt replies regarding booking of time slots!
All of you are already assigned a class. Pls check to see which class you belong to.

Some reminders.

1. Pls be at least 15min early for class. As latecoming affect the other students in class, DWZ treats it seriously.
2. Once you have reached, mark your attendance.
3. Come in proper attire. Tight bottoms are not allowed. Refrain from wearing jeans, slippers/sandels. Covered shoes ONLY.

Payment

Payment is made on the first lesson. Somebody would be collecting the fees before the start of the lesson. Hence i would need you guys to reach early so as to go thru the admin stuff. Pls bring an exact amount of $70 to facilitate collection. For new members, $10 registration fee is applicable.

How to get there?

From Clementi Central (Bus interchange)

Stop at Opp Pandan Valley Condo or after you see SIM Yo:ha (Its a big sign outside the hostel)

1. DWZ System

We will be changing the system of our beginners course into a Junior Team of DWZ.
Team members will not have to stop dancing after 8 weeks course.
There will be consistent trainings and practices every week.

Just like any other CCA!
We want to change DWZ into a big family and to allow members to bond and share their common interest!

There will be showcases organised for juniors occasionally and...
An internal audition ONLY FOR JUNIORS will be held once every 6 months to bring dancers with great potential to a higher level to join our ADVANCE TEAM (Senior) and become part of our performing crew.

Workshops will also be organised for our DWZ member for exposure and try out different styles and genre of dance, inviting external instructors to SIM!

Training Day : Wednesdays
Time: 530pm OR 7pm
Venue: SIM Ulu Pandan Campus (Dance Studio)
Duration: 1.5hrs / class

Instructor: Allegra from Oschool

Class for Junior would start on 22 July 09 (Wed)!!
Some lil notes..
1. Pls be early, reach at least 15min before class. DWZ takes late coming seriously as it would disturb the class.
2. Dress Appropriately. Strictly no jeans, slippers/sandals allowed! Dress should allow movement, eg Tshirt, Baggy longpants/Berms, covered shoes.
3. There's no need to prepare anythg else, just come and enjoy!

Also, pls check your time slot. I have called most of you to ask for your preferred time, but not all picked up. Hence I have made a list of names.

Pls check against your name and time slot. If I have allocated a wrong slot for you reply this email and let me know. For those not allocated, means you missed my call, hence reply this mail ASAP with ur preferred time! as the slots are really filling fast! esp the 530 slot! its now left with only 4 more slot!

DWZ keeps a cap of 35 pax per class so that Allegra can teach more efficiently. Members who fail to reply by the time both classes max out, would have to wait till the next intake around Jan 2010!

Hi to all members of the Beginner Team!

Welcome to the big family of DREAMWERKZ!! Hope you guys have a great session with Allegra on your very first training!! Not too tough right?

Due to the fact that there are too little beginners to take up the 2 slots of this season of Beginner Class, the committee of DREAMWERKZ has decided to merge both timing into one common time for all! And since there is only one slot, I have already arranged with Allegra to extend your training session to 1.5 hours instead of just 1 hour so that you can learn more from this course!! Dun worry, the club will absorb all the extra cost of this extension of time so that you guys can benefit from it.Please take note that this common timing for everyone is 6pm to 7.30pm!

Those that cannot make it for this common timing, please reply back in this email to let us know in advance.

The audition is held to recruit members to be part of the Advance team of dancers in SIM Dance club. The team would be exposed to different genres of dance and have the chance to take part in performances as well as competitions!!

Finally, the day has come for your last lesson for this beginner Hip Hop course that you have signed up for 3 months ago. So, this week, 18th Dec, will be your last lesson! Sob sob…

Reminder that last lesson will be in school, starting at 5pm and 6.30 respectively. Freddy will be coming down. We will be taking pictures for keepsakes as well as for blog and notice board, so if you want, just wear a bit nicer to class that day k?

For those that are interested to join the next season of DWZ Beginner Class, which will start in late January, please let me know on Thursday so I can do my planning. I have received a lot of enquiries regarding next season so if you let me know early if you are interested, I can reserve a place for you when the course start next year.

On the other hand, for those that are interested to join DWZ Advance Team, which dancers are trained for performances and competition, there’ll be a dance audition next year, most probably mid January. So, if you are keen to join us, let me know too on your last lesson.

I attended some of the Beginner Class with you guys so I know that some of you have the potential and some really have the commitment and passion. So just sign up with me? I promise the audition won’t be too tough.

Hi all Beginners,
Like mentioned in your last lesson, the venue for this week’s practice will NOT be in school at SIM!!

For this week, 4/12, we will be using a dance studio that is quite near to O school (for those that have forgotten about O school, it’s the place you reported to on your very first lesson!). It’s Block number 75, Level 1, located along Bencoolen Street, just beside the Bencoolen Hotel. If you are walking from Douby Ghaut Mrt station, you should walk towards Rendezvous Hotel, followed by Kopitiam, and you should be able to see the red building/shop house. PS: it’s not at O school.

This dance studio that we’ll be using is not officially a part of O school yet, so no point going around asking for direction. Also, since it’s not official yet, it means, somehow, we are using the place unofficially. You know, like illegal? Haha…

So, for those that are still not so sure how to go, I have a plan for you. For the 1st class (5pm to 6.30pm), let’s meet at 4.30pm at douby Ghaut interchange, at the exit where there is 7-11 and you can see Plaza Singapura. For second class (6.30pm to 8pm), let’s meet at 6pm at the same exit. We will only wait for 5 minutes before walking to the studio. If you are late, you would have to go there on your own then.

Regarding the rest of the lessons. Since we have all agreed on that we dun wanna dance on Christmas, I have decided to extend each lesson to 1.5hours for both classes, which means that you are left with 3 sessions with Daniel only (4/12, 11/12, and 18/12). The rest of the lessons will be in school except for this week. Your last lesson will be on 18th Dec for both classes.

*For those that have ordered Danzation Tickets and/or Recital Tickets, I need you to bring your money this week! I need to pay Daniel by this week so as to reserve the tickets for everyone!

Hi everyone! Please be reminded that there will be dance class for you this Thursday (27/11) in school, at Level 4, at 5pm and 6.30pm respectively. This week will be your 3rd lesson with Daniel. Do come in comfortable wear, as well as sneakers or sport shoes.

Please take note that this week’s lesson will be 1.5 hours, meaning from 5pm to 6.30pm for 1st class and 6.30pm to 8pm for 2nd class. This is part of the measure to make sure we dun have to dance on Christmas.

Hi all,

hope you guys have a great time last lesson!
Just like to remind you that your next training is this Thursday (20/11) in school Level 4, at 5pm or 6.30pm respectively. Try not to be late because you'll be missing the first part of the class, as well as interrupting the class. And now that Daniel is back, try not to miss anymore lessons because it's at your own loss only.

You are welcome to come 30 minutes before your class to run-through those steps that were taught in the previous class with your fellow dance mate or members from the advance team. Please wear sneakers or sport shoes to class, and not just other covered shoes. Make it a habit to mark attendance for yourself before the start of the class each time.

**i am gathering Tickets order for Daniel regarding a dance concert put up by O school. It's called Recital, and will be held on 8th Dec, at Sp Convention Hall, at 7.30pm. You will be able to watch performances put up by instructors from O school (including Daniel and Ryan) and the students from O school. i have watched it last year and think it's a highly-recommend concert that all of us should watch. Moreover, this year performance should be better than last year! Each Ticket is $15 for early bird sale, and $20 if buy at door.

PS: Please do not mix up Recital with Danzation k?

So this Thurs, please mark you attendance, and before you leave, let me know how many tickets you want for Recital and whether you want the last lesson to be on Tues or Weds during Christmas week.
